Business Administrator, Customer Service Practitioner – Apprenticeship – 13 months

Job Description

This role is to learn and work in a busy office team, providing front of house services as part of Reception, and carrying out sales administration work.  Leading to a Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 qualification, it is an opportunity for someone without prior experience to learn how to provide customer service, including face-to-face, telephone, digital, and written contact and communications.  You will learn how to demonstrate excellent customer service skills and behaviours, as well as product and service knowledge. 

Company Description

Tees Components has a well-established apprenticeship programme, working with local training providers to develop people and help them gain skills and qualifications.  In 2023 we were named SME Employer of the Year for our region in the National Apprenticeship Awards.  We carry out very large, precision CNC machining services for a diverse range of valued clients, in sectors including renewable energy and defence.  Our other services include blast and paint, balancing, pressure testing, and assembly.  In addition to heavy subcontract engineering services, we are also OEM for our own product, the Tees White Gill Thruster.  This is a ship’s thruster which we design and manufacture on-site, and for which we provide spares and service support worldwide.  We pride ourselves on our exceptional skills, our modern CNC shop, and our commitment to exceeding clients' expectations. 

We are based in North Skelton, Redcar & Cleveland.  The company is owned and managed by two family directors, who work to ensure that we are good employers, we have a positive impact on our local community, and we operate sustainably.

Person description

Essential:

GCSE or equivalent English and Maths Grade 4

Good IT skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Commitment to attention to detail, including excellent proof-reading skills

Able to manage own time and prioritise

 

Desirable, but not essential:

Work experience of being in an office or business environment.

What the role will look like:

This person will work with the front of house, sales and marketing, finance, and purchasing teams, to ensure that our customers’ needs are met to an excellent standard. 

 

Tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Meeting and greeting visitors, ensuring they have PPE and permits to work in place
  • Making diary appointments, organising refreshments and booking meeting rooms and lunches
  • Creating new enquiries on our MRP system, and converting to sales orders
  • Preparing documentation for enquiries and orders, and sharing with the team
  • Assisting with meetings to review enquiries and orders, taking notes and sharing information
  • Answering the phone, speaking to customers and other callers, opening and distributing mail
  • Sourcing and ordering consumables and materials needed for contracts
  • General office duties such as data entry, printing, scanning, copying, filing, shredding
  • Assisting with events such as socials and client hospitality

 

This is an opportunity to gain experience in a professional SME business environment, with support from our staff and mentoring, and formal training from an external provider.

 

 

Professional Development

 

Your on-the-job training will sit alongside structured learning that will lead to a nationally recognised qualification. At the end of your year as an apprentice, you’ll be a qualified Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner.

 

You will work alongside our team who are experienced and skilled in sales, marketing, front of house, purchasing, and finance.

 

Completion of this apprenticeship will lead to eligibility to join the Institute of Customer Service as an Individual member at Professional level

 

Progression opportunities

Following completion of this level 2 apprenticeship, the successful candidate could progress to a level 3 business administration apprenticeship, or a permanent office administration role.

Salary: £14,000.00 per year paid monthly
